Tom Leckie owned a repetition engineering business Lexel Electric in St Kilda. He patented two reels. The first was a revolving drum multiplying reel with magnetic braking. (MAGNA-FLITE). It was only moderately successful. 1,470 were produced over a nine month period in 1957 – 1958. The second two years later in 1959 was an improved closed face reel. (AUTO-FLITE). There was only a 1,000 of these produced. Leckie set a world 4oz level lined casting record with his reel using a modified spool.
