Sutcliffe

William Charles Sutcliffe, Schoolmaster from Lismore, New Zealand, successfully applied for a patent for a non-refillable bottle. He set up the Sutcliffe Patent Non-refillable Bottle Company Ltd in September 1913. This traded until June 1919 when it went into receivership. He made a patent application for a fishing reel in October 1926 which it is unsure if it was successful or not. He successfully made a patent application for a fishing float which was accepted in November 1939. He applied for 6 other various patents, 3 of which were successful. The Sidecast and game reels he made were unique in design. They were constructed of monometal which is impervious to salt water. At the time of writing, there are only 6 known examples of these reels.
