Frank Pataky was the founder of Capstan Plastic Mouldings. He came to Australia from Hungary in 1929. Pataky a trained tool maker, obtained Patent approval in 1938, for a reel which featured an unusual reel support, permanently embedded in the Bakelite back, during the production process. Capstan later expanded into Revolving Drum Multipliers and Threadlines. They also made tackle boxes, bait traps and numerous other fitting items out of moulded plastic. He also successfully applied for and was granted a patent for a handcasting reel in 1961.
